We have been to Seal Rock, just south of Newport, Oregon, maybe a dozen times or more. It is a truly special place on the Oregon Coast, with sea stacks, open beach, and constantly changing weather. On this trip, like so many other days, the forecast was full of rain and heavy clouds, and I was not very hopeful for sunset light.
I made my way up to a higher point in the dunes that I had found on a previous trip, hoping something might happen. About thirty or forty minutes before sunset, the sun finally broke through a gap in the clouds and sent beams of light down across the ocean and beach. I used a neutral density filter to let the water blur and move through the scene, giving the image an almost surreal feeling while still holding onto the drama of the stormy evening.
