My name is Chris Blake, and I’m a Boston-based photographer with over 23 years of experience in digital art. Since 2001, my work has focused on large-scale, meticulously crafted images that transcend time, evoking the raw, emotional connection of witnessing the grandeur of nature firsthand. By blending moments into seamless compositions, I strive to create extraordinary images that capture both the beauty and spirit of majestic landscapes.

Driven by a passion for conservation and storytelling, I believe in the transformative power of art to reveal the wonders of our world and inspire action to protect it. I collaborate with environmental organizations to raise awareness and safeguard America’s landscapes, especially through preserving the national park system, which I consider a treasure worthy of our collective investment.

As a devoted father, I’m on a mission to take my daughter to all 63 U.S. national parks before she turns 18. This ambitious journey enriches my portfolio while giving her an irreplaceable connection to the history, beauty, and diversity of the American wilderness. Through my website, Curiouslens.com, I invite audiences to share in our adventures and join me in celebrating the natural world.

Photographic Process

Most of my work involves time-blended images, where I scout a location days or weeks in advance, check the weather, and select the optimal date and time. I then set up a single composition and wait, capturing the scene throughout sunrise or sunset. In post-production, I combine different points in time to create a unified image that conveys the emotion and feeling of witnessing the event.

Another significant aspect of my work involves massive-scale panoramic images, which range from a few hundred to thousands of megapixels. My largest panoramas have been printed on building sides and office walls, offering viewers an unprecedented level of detail.

Gear
People often ask me about the gear I use. While I’ve cycled through many brands over the past 20 years—including Canon, Nikon, and Fuji—what matters most is that it works for me and enhances my creative process.

  • Landscape Gear:
    • Hasselblad X2D with various prime lenses
    • Leica SL2, primarily with the 24-90mm lens
    • Canon R5 with the 100-500mm lens, mostly for large panoramas and occasional wildlife photos
    • An assortment of filters and other accessories
