Walking through the Hoh Rain Forest in the driving rain can be a surprising joy. The greens and colors of this place start to pop, even as the sky is fully covered by clouds. The rain adds life to this old and unique place in our park system.
Like most rain forests, it’s a very dense place, and on the rare occasion you find an open area, you must (as a photographer) take advantage. Here we have a line of four towering trees in the foreground, covered in moss, backlit, and glowing from the sun. Ferns and fallen leaves cover the ground, and the forest behind the trees is soft and warm. This creates a surreal feeling when viewed in person, as if you are there, experiencing it for yourself.
