Description
The Coquille River Lighthouse is one of the classic landmarks near Bandon, Oregon. Earlier in the day, we had walked around the lighthouse from the park side, where there are some great possibilities for a dramatic coastal image from the rocks below. But with heavy clouds hanging over the coast, the light never really came together from that angle.
Later, we drove around to the other side of the Coquille River, where I used a long lens to create a more compressed view of the lighthouse. That longer focal length helped simplify the scene, soften much of the background, and pull the attention back to the structure itself. As sunset approached, the sky began to turn a soft warm color, giving this historic lighthouse a quiet, peaceful feeling along the Oregon Coast.
