Description
Dead Horse Point State Park is always on my list of possible sunset locations around Moab. The view is massive, the light can change by the minute, and even after spending time there, it never feels like the same scene twice. For this image, the conditions came together beautifully: the sun was low enough to create a strong sunstar, the Colorado River curved through the canyon below, and there was still snow visible down in the valley.
What made this scene work for me was the combination of scale and foreground detail. The warm evening light hit the sandstone rocks and the desert juniper near the edge of the overlook, while the canyon opened up behind them into the distance. Add in the sky, clouds, winter color, and the glow of sunset, and the whole image came together into something that felt really special.
