This fine art panorama was created at Alekoko Fishpond, also known as Menehune Fishpond, during a quiet Hawaiian sunset. My daughter and I had the rare privilege of experiencing this place entirely to ourselves, a gift that made the evening even more special. The conditions were nearly perfect soft light, dramatic cloud formations, and almost no wind, which not only made the water reflect the sky’s color beautifully but also allowed me to capture a massive stitched panorama at over 400 megapixels.
Standing here, surrounded by the stillness of the pond and the silhouette of the surrounding mountains, it was easy to feel the depth of Hawaiian history and lore tied to this ancient site. Known for its cultural significance and ties to legend, the fishpond is one of the most important archaeological features on the island. Photographing it during such a vivid sunset felt like being part of something timeless.
In the final frame, glowing clouds mirror into the tranquil waters, tying the landscape together in warm tones of gold, pink, and violet.
