Description
After a long day hiking the Tobin Harbor Trail on Isle Royale, we set out in search of a west-facing view for sunset. Near Moose Point, we veered off the main trail and followed a faint community path that led us down to the water’s edge. After exploring the rugged shoreline for the right vantage point, I came across this quiet spot—a perfect view across the still waters of Tobin Harbor.
With a small, tree-covered island centered in my frame, I waited for the sun to descend. Just as it touched the tree line, it cast a brilliant starburst across the horizon, lighting up the tops of the trees in golden light. Gentle ripples moved through the bay, drawing the eye into the scene. Overhead, the sky caught fire—pastels of purple, orange, and soft gold layered between streaks of cloud—bringing the day to a dramatic close. It was one of those rare, still moments that makes this park feel truly untouched.
