Description

The Spouting Horn at Cape Perpetua is one of those magical Oregon Coast features that feels almost unreal when the conditions line up. Formed by old lava rock and shaped by the constant force of the Pacific Ocean, it sends water blasting skyward when the waves hit just right.

I set up with a long lens and kept shooting, waiting for the right mix of light, wave energy, spray, and wind. I probably made hundreds of frames here, but this one had the balance I was hoping for. The late-day golden light catches the rocks and the rising water, while the wind pulls the spray into a ghostlike shape above the ocean. It is a wild, temporary moment created by the coast itself.

Ocean water exploding from the Spouting Horn at Cape Perpetua on the Oregon Coast, lit by warm late-day sunlight.
