Description

Rainforests are a wonderful, vibrant, and thriving ecosystem. As time passes, old trees fall and new ones begin to grow. Often, the new trees will grow right on top of the fallen ones, using the older trees for nutrients and to get a jump start on life. There is no clearer example of the ‘circle of life.’

On a very cold and rainy afternoon, I came across an old fallen tree that must have been lying there for years. On top was a new tree starting to grow, with a few branches hanging down. I fell in love with the contrast—the new life of the bright green branch directly opposed to the dark red of the older fallen tree. The fact that everything was wet just helped bring it all to life.

New tree growing on an old fallen tree in a rain forest, with bright green branches contrasting against dark red wood on a cold, rainy day.
