Description

The Stove Pipe Wells Sand Dunes are one of the most popular areas in the entire park. Since my trip brought me here in late December and Early January there where many fewer people that other seasons. The storms for the past few days had brought in not only clouds and rain but also strong winds. This allowed me to find a location in the dunes free of footprints. This is one of my all time favorite images from the park. The rolling sand dunes in the foreground are full of amazing texture. The 100 megapixel image has tremendous detail. The waning late day light was just hitting the Grapevine Mountain rage in the background. My shutter speed was just long enough to give a bit of motion and life to the sky and clouds.
