Thor’s Well might be my all-time favorite location on the Oregon Coast, as stunningly beautiful as it is deadly. On a day filled with on-and-off storms, I set up near (but not too close) to the edge of Thor’s Well around an hour before sunset. The waves can transform shallow puddles into waist-deep torrents, requiring you to dress appropriately and constantly stay vigilant.
On this particular evening, just as the sun dipped below the horizon, the lower clouds glowed with a soft, enchanting yellow. The longer exposure I used captured the water rushing back into the well, reflecting the delicate yellows of the sunset sky. In the foreground, the water surged in almost every direction, showcasing the brutal force exerted on these rugged lava rocks.
