Description
After scouting photo locations throughout the day, I settled on this wonderful spot for my first sunset shoot. Taken from atop a small hill, the rolling grass field and trees lead your eyes right to this monolith. Like many of my images, this is a time composite, blending the last golden light of the day with the soft blue hour and wonderful clouds.
It’s hard in any single photo to grasp the scale of this giant. Rising 1,267 feet from the Belle Fourche River and peaking at almost 5,112 feet above sea level, it is spectacular to behold. It’s easy to find places to be alone here, enjoying the splendor of this place that has been mostly untouched by human hands.
