Description
The prairies and grasslands of Theodore Roosevelt National Park are truly something special. There is very little truly original prairie land left in the United States—somewhere between 1-4% of the original 170 million acres remains intact. Here in North Dakota, you can still find land as it was hundreds of years ago, untouched by development or farming.
On this day, there were epic western thunderstorms, and I thought there would be little chance of getting any meaningful photos. I was hiking out in the higher prairies on top of some of the badlands when the sky changed. The sun started to shoot rays of light onto the grassland below me, and the horizon turned red. This was something I’ve never experienced before, creating a stunning image.
