Description
Dead Horse Point has several incredible viewpoints, but this has become one of my favorites in the hours before sunset. As the light drops lower, the shadows stretch across the canyon, the cliffs begin to glow, and the La Sal Mountains hold the last clean light in the distance. With the clouds moving overhead, the whole scene takes on a wide-open, old-west feeling — big, rugged, and still a little wild.
In the middle distance, the bright blue shapes are potash evaporation ponds near Moab, a small but striking reminder of human industry within an otherwise vast desert landscape. La Sal Mountains Beyond the Canyonlands captures that contrast: red rock canyons, distant mountains, passing weather, and the enormous scale of southern Utah.
