Description
As the sun sets in the west, the last light of day shines on the Great Sand Dunes. The Sangre de Cristo Mountains rise up from behind the dunes, giving a sense of the enormous space of this place. The mountains rise over 2,000 feet from the valley floor and are over 14,000 feet above sea level.
This was a special night. The sky had been full of clouds all day, and just before sunset, they started to break apart. The warm evening light glowed yellow, creating a wonderful color in the sky. The interplay of light and shadow on the dunes and mountains added a magical quality to the scene, highlighting the dramatic landscape and immense beauty of Great Sand Dunes National Park.
