Description
Mono Lake, located on the western edge of the Great Basin in Mono County, California, is a unique saline soda lake. The small town of Lee Vining is situated just to the west of the lake, serving as a gateway to the high-country road leading into Yosemite National Park. This area of the Eastern Sierra is a striking and desolate landscape.
The high concentration of salts in the lake makes the water alkaline, leading to the formation of otherworldly Tufa Towers. This image, nearly 400 megapixels, captures incredible detail. It was taken just before sunrise, with the early light casting a beautiful glow on the clouds and water. The cool late-summer morning air kept the lake’s surface still, creating a near-perfect reflection.
