Description
Olmsted Point, along the Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park, is often overlooked by photographers who focus on the more classic overlooks in Yosemite Valley. Yet, a short hike from the road, coupled with a brief scramble up some rocks, offers what I believe to be one of the most breathtaking views of Clouds Rest and Half Dome. As the sun began to set, the sky burst into vivid colors, casting a striking red glow on Half Dome. However, this captivating scene came with a heavy heart. The remarkable haze in the photo, while visually arresting, was due to the smoke from the “Camp Fire,” a devastating blaze that caused significant destruction across California.
Yosemite is a truly special place, offering a rich tapestry of landscapes to those willing to explore beyond the typical tourist spots.
