Unlike the more dramatic stormy mornings I captured here, this photograph of Kilauea Lighthouse embraces the quiet subtleties of pastel light at sunrise. The early sun softened the scene, bathing the cliffs, water, and sky in delicate tones of peach, lavender, and blue. The lighthouse itself is sharp and defined, standing out against the horizon and adding a point of contrast to the otherwise gentle composition.
This time-blended image balances stillness and movement the lighthouse, grass, and cliffs remain crisp, while the long exposure smooths the ocean’s surface into a soft texture that leads the eye outward. Near the horizon, a line of clouds casts a darker band across the water, anchoring the scene and guiding the gaze upward to the colorful sky.
