Description

While most people visit Nakalele Blowhole for its dramatic coastline, I was equally drawn to this weathered lighthouse marker standing alone on the rocks. Its concrete base leans unevenly, worn down by decades of salt, wind, and rain. The metal and painted surfaces are scarred and faded, yet it continues to serve its quiet purpose along the north shore.

Captured well after sunset, the sky was still heavy with storm clouds, though a faint trace of blue hour light remained. That last reflected glow lit the base of the structure in stark contrast, emphasizing its geometry against the darkened horizon.

This photograph is less about the surrounding ocean and more about endurance a solitary marker, battered but still present, echoing the resilience of the coast it protects.

This photograph is part of my Nakalele Lighthouse Marker Pair, which highlights the weathered navigation marker above Maui’s rugged coast. Together, the two images reveal both the broader setting and the intricate textures shaped by decades of salt, wind, and storms. Rusted Lighthouse Marker Nakalele Blowhole
