This photograph was by far the most comfortable sunset image I have ever created. Most times for sunset photography, I’m either cold or hot, standing exposed for hours waiting for the perfect light. This image, however, was taken from a wonderfully plush 56th-story luxury hotel room in the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas. Easily the most luxurious and relaxing way to photograph a sunset.
While it may not have been a hardship to make, the image itself is stunning. There were a few rare clouds over the Las Vegas skyline that turned red just after the sun went down. From the Cosmopolitan, you have a great view of most of the Strip. The iconic Bellagio Fountains are captured in full swing, and the rest of the boulevard can be experienced. The lights and colors make Vegas come alive, and most of the legendary hotels can be seen—from Paris, Caesars, Harrah’s, and the Flamingo to the Venetian and beyond.
