Description
As the first light of day rose over Isle Royale, the fog thickened across Rock Harbor rather than lifting. What began as a clear morning quickly transformed into something softer, quieter—almost surreal. From my vantage point, I composed a minimalist and nearly abstract image across the bay toward Center Island, now shrouded in mist.
Everything was cloaked in a soft blue—the water, the sky, the fog—merging into a single tonal field. Just off-center, a single red-and-white buoy breaks the scene, the only man-made object in view. Faint outlines of Center Island and distant shoreline on the right side of the frame help anchor the composition, offering a subtle sense of place in a landscape nearly lost to the fog. It was a fleeting, quiet moment that captured the stillness and mystery of Isle Royale at dawn.
