Description
Fireweed Mountain, a majestic 6,956-foot summit nestled within the breathtaking Wrangell Mountain chain, resides within the pristine confines of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Our experience was made even more extraordinary by our stay in the historic ghost town of Kennicott, offering unparalleled vistas just a stone’s throw from our accommodation.
Each day, I ventured down the rolling hills to the old mining road, eagerly anticipating the enchanting sunrise. The location is truly unbeatable – before your eyes, you witness the remnants of the Root and Kennicott glaciers, accompanied by a network of rivers flowing from the ice’s outflow. Beyond, a grand mountain range unfurls, beginning in verdant greenery and culminating in rugged, snow-capped peaks.
One particular morning held a unique allure. The first light of day revealed low-lying clouds embracing the mountainside, while above, the remnants of a morning shower gave way to a dramatic break in the storm clouds.
