Description
The weather at Voyageurs National Park can shift in an instant, and this evening was a perfect example. As I set up along the edge of Kabetogama Lake, the sky was completely overcast, with little hope for color or light. I almost packed up. Then, just before the sun slipped below the horizon, the clouds broke a brief window of light opened, spilling warm tones across the water.
From my spot near the Ash River area, I watched that light carve a glowing line right through the reflection, perfectly aligning with a fallen tree along the shore. Moments like this are rare a combination of timing, luck, and persistence. Within minutes, the light was gone again, the clouds closed, and the lake returned to gray. But for that short time, the entire scene came alive.
