Description
Creating amazing images in a place like the Hoh Rain Forest can be a huge undertaking. While undoubtedly one of the most stunning places in America, it is very chaotic for photographers. There is so much of everything—trees, moss, ferns—it’s hard to find and isolate any single subject. On our second trip to Olympic, we spent days walking in the various rain forests. On this day, we spent a few hours exploring the trails in the forest. I saw what remained of this red cedar tree and knew there was an image here—the strong subject with the soft hanging moss as a backdrop. Once I found the composition, I waited for just enough sun to break free of the clouds and light up the decaying tree.
This photograph captures that moment, highlighting the intricate beauty of the cedar tree against the lush, mossy backdrop.
