Description
Between the two central Oregon coastal towns of Florence and Yachats, you’ll find Heceta Head Light. Constructed in 1894 and standing an impressive 205 feet tall, it’s an iconic location on the Oregon coast. The challenge of such a well-known site is creating a unique photo. We hiked up from the parking lot to the lighthouse and began to explore. There is a steep hill directly behind the lighthouse with some trails. As the day was winding down, the rain started to come down. I kept exploring until I found this vantage point.
Instead of trying to incorporate the entire building, I focused on just the lens and light itself. This way, the viewer can see and experience every detail of this very old and still functional light. The weather, with its clouds and fog, proved to aid the scene by removing all distractions.
