Description
Blue Forest Trail is my favorite spot to explore in Petrified Forest National Park. Originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1934, the trail was closed in 1955, along with the lower road, and replaced by the easier Blue Mesa Trail. It reopened for adventurous hikers in 2013. This hike can be challenging, with steep climbs and descents across the badlands. The trail rewards you with breathtaking views that seem to transform with every turn and each new hilltop.
As we approached the top of one of the highest peaks, we spotted a distant storm brewing. I set up my camera and waited for the perfect shot. The scene unfolded as the last rays of sunlight cast a warm glow on the badlands in the foreground, while the sky turned a fiery red. In the distance, a massive desert storm was visible, with sheets of rain falling from the dark clouds. It was a truly unique and captivating moment that I was thrilled to capture in this photo.
