Light and Sand – Mesquite Dunes

This photograph captures a singular dune basking in the golden light of sunset at the Mesquite Sand Dunes. Located near Stove Pipe Wells Inn, the dunes are an accessible yet strikingly beautiful feature of Death Valley. Opting for a unique perspective over the typical grand landscape, I utilized a 500mm lens to isolate this prominent dune. The last rays of sunlight highlighted its contours before disappearing behind the mountains, plunging the valley into shadow. Smaller dunes in the foreground add depth and lead the eye towards the central dune, while the dark, shadowed mountains in the background provide a dramatic contrast to the scene.
