Description
I was fortunate to experience an exceptionally dark night during my visit to Lassen. With no moon and an elevation of 9,000 feet, the clarity of the sky was remarkable. The clouds that had colored the sunset had already drifted east, leaving the night completely still. I set up my camera near Lake Helen, aligning Lassen Peak with the North Star. Though the wait was long and cold, it was absolutely worth it. A meteor shower occurred during the exposure, and you can spot a few tiny meteors in the final image.
Standing in the cold beneath a flawless sky, with only the stars for light, you can truly appreciate the beauty of this place and understand why it’s worth preserving.
