Description
In late November, Cami and I ventured to Everglades National Park, the third largest park in the lower 48 states. This image was taken in Big Cypress National Preserve, located just north of the National Park and part of the larger Everglades Protected Area. To capture this scene, we left a few hours before sunrise to reach the swamp as the sun came up.
We signed up for a sunrise photo walk at the Clyde Butcher Gallery, one of the best experiences we’ve had in any park. We had a guide all to ourselves who took us on a 4-hour walk into the swamp. With just the two of us, I could scout locations and capture some stunning images. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the environment and helped guide me through the area.
For this particular shot, I was standing in water almost five feet deep, with my tripod fully extended and my camera nearly in the water. The sun had risen about an hour prior, and the light throughout the swamp was perfect. The Boston fern in the center of the frame is just being touched with direct light, and the moss on the cypress trees has a beautiful glow.
