Description
This image was created at Alekoko Fishpond while the air was calm, storm clouds rolled across the sky, breaking open just enough for the last golden light of the day to stream through. That light raked across the Haupu mountain slopes and the trees below, painting the ancient landscape with warmth even as the clouds signaled the end of the day.
Unlike the massive stitched panoramas I sometimes create, this photograph is a carefully crafted time blend. Over the course of about fifteen minutes, I captured several frames as the light shifted and softened, blending them into one composition that represents the quiet strength of this moment. It is less about technical scale and more about the mood the interplay between passing storm and fleeting light.
Standing here with my daughter, it was impossible not to feel the weight of history surrounding this site. The fishpond, built centuries ago, is still alive with Hawaiian culture and legend. To watch the sky shift and the land glow under this light was to witness both nature’s fleeting beauty and the enduring spirit of this sacred place.
