Description
As you delve deep into the bamboo forest along the Pipiwai Trail, even midday can bring an enveloping darkness due to the dense foliage. Amidst this shadowy realm, I discovered a solitary area illuminated by sunlight, creating a striking contrast with the rest of the frame cloaked in shadow. Framing the foreground with a weathered, brown tree against the backdrop of four vibrant green trees highlighted by sunlight added depth and interest to the composition, setting this image apart.
The Pipiwai Trail, located in Haleakalā National Park, is a gem tucked beyond the town of Hana, requiring a few hours’ drive to reach. However, the journey along the famous Road to Hana is a scenic adventure in itself. The four-mile trail leads past captivating waterfalls such as Makanhiku and Waimoku Falls, each surrounded by stunning pools of water. At the trail’s highest point lies the Infinity Pool. Along the way, you’ll encounter a truly gigantic banyan tree and traverse small metal bridges over the river, adding to the trail’s allure and charm.
