Description
While most visitors flock to the summit of East Maui Volcano inside Haleakalā National Park, there’s another hidden gem with incredible views: Leleiwi Overlook. Situated just before the main summit area, it features a small parking lot and requires a short hike for different vantage points. The major advantage of coming here is the solitude—while hundreds gather at the summit, you may find yourself alone or with just a few others, completely transforming the experience.
I waited for the perfect moment when the sun peeked over the clouds below, capturing the sunstar and casting the first light onto the volcano rim directly ahead. The remainder of the deep crater lay shrouded in shadow, creating a dramatic contrast against the illuminated landscape.
