Description
This photograph was captured along the Oregon Coast near Heceta Head Lighthouse during a morning of unsettled weather, with rain clouds moving in and out and little direct light reaching the water.
Despite the muted sky, the ocean was anything but calm. Large, powerful waves rolled in one after another, constantly changing shape and rhythm. No two waves were the same, and each frame became a unique moment—formed, broken, and gone within seconds.
The deep blue tones of the water stand out against the darker, shadowed surf, creating contrast and motion within the frame. It’s a reminder of why photographing waves never feels repetitive: the scene may look familiar, but the ocean never repeats itself.
