Description
In the early morning, we ventured deep into the Quinault Rainforest and found something astonishing. Even at this low elevation, it had been so cold the night before that ice had formed over the landscape. I knew I had to work quickly, as the sunlight would soon melt everything away.
I found the remains of an old tree with new moss still growing on what was left of the trunk. The ferns were covered with ice, and the green mountains in the background added a wonderful color contrast to the scene. I used a longer exposure to capture some motion in the clouds, enhancing the ethereal quality of the moment.
