Description
With over 2,000 arches in Arches National Park, you have a plethora of choices, but Delicate Arch is the one everyone wants to see. It is a three-mile round-trip hike to reach this stunning arch, with a decent amount of elevation gain along the way. For this photo, I chose to visit at sunrise to take advantage of the great light and fewer crowds, allowing me to capture the arch in all its natural beauty.
Scale is very hard to photograph, but the arch itself is huge—the opening beneath the arch is 45 feet high and 32 feet wide. Even hiking before sunrise in the pitch black with headlamps, you’ll still find many people on the trail. The quiet beauty of the desert and experiencing the first light of day is a draw for many. In this photo, I had soft lighting throughout the entire sunrise and just a hint of color right along the horizon, perfectly highlighting the grandeur of Delicate Arch.
