Description
A short 50 miles north of Las Vegas, Nevada, lies the Valley of Fire State Park. In that short hour-long drive, you leave one of America’s largest cities for a landscape that feels otherworldly. Visiting in the winter was a pleasant experience, with cool to cold days and fewer crowds compared to other months. The few days I spent here were blessed with clouds and color during sunrises and sunsets.
In this image, we see the last bit of sunlight hitting the huge sandstone mountains, formed from erosion over 150 million years. The sky was full of light clouds that turned red to match the mountains, bathing the desert floor in a warm red glow. On this cold winter’s night, the air was crisp and still, with not a sound to be heard. It was truly one of the best sunsets I have ever experienced.
