Description
In the bamboo forest, the trees sway and collide with one another in the wind, filling the air with dynamic motion and sound. Amidst the wind, sunlight, and movement, the forest feels truly alive. This vertical image captures the trees as they create leading lines, rising from the shadowy forest floor up to the sunlit canopy above.
The Pipiwai Trail is part of Haleakalā National Park, although it’s not directly connected to the popular summit area. Located beyond the town of Hana, it’s a few hours’ drive to reach this trailhead, but the journey along the famous Road to Hana is one of the world’s most scenic drives.
The four-mile trail passes several waterfalls, including the Makahiku and Waimoku Falls, each surrounded by stunning pools of water. At the trail’s highest point is the breathtaking Infinity Pool. Along the way, you’ll also encounter a massive banyan tree and cross the river via narrow metal bridges.
