After a night of storms, I found this quiet sunrise along the coast of Oahu, not far from Honolulu. The weather was still unsettled, but the worst of the storm had passed, leaving behind a calm, moody morning over the ocean.
What drew me to this scene was the contrast between the cool blue water and the warm orange and yellow light starting to break through the clouds. The longer exposure softened the waves as they moved along the rocky shoreline, while the steep coastal cliffs gave the image a darker, more rugged feeling. It is a quieter Hawaii image, but that is exactly what I liked about it.
