Description
During our visit to Capitol Reef, we spent an afternoon hiking in search of a good spot to watch the sunset. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we were beginning to think we wouldn’t find a suitable location. We had walked a few miles, with parts of the trail washed out from recent rains, and were hurrying back to avoid getting stuck in the dark.
Then, the sky started to light up with a brilliant red glow. I glanced to my right and saw Pectols Pyramid in the distance, framed against the vibrant colors. I quickly made my way across the valley to get a better view, and this is where I captured the shot. Pectols Pyramid, an iconic landmark in Capitol Reef National Park, stands at an impressive 6,211 feet. This isn’t my usual approach to setting up a photo, but the combination of luck and timing that evening led me to this remarkable composition.
