Description
This photograph was taken at the Nakalele Blowhole on Maui late in the blue hour, just as the day surrendered to storm. Facing west, the last traces of color linger in the sky while heavy clouds close in around the horizon. The sharp volcanic rock along the coast catches just enough light to reflect detail and texture, even as darkness grows.
The long exposure was timed to preserve a sense of motion in the water below, where waves crash into the tidepools and surge back toward the sea. Together, the glowing horizon, the restless water, and the dark stone combine to create an image filled with both drama and mood.
It is less about the spectacle of the blowhole itself and more about the landscape it inhabits—the raw, jagged edge of Maui’s north shore, shaped by weather, ocean, and time.
